DETROIT (FOX 2) – Creepy, crawling, cockroaches in a video – posted by a DoorDash Driver from the Popeye’s location on Detroit’s east side, at Conner and Warren, have surfaced.

“German Cockroaches are a tough pest,” said Mark VanderWerp, Rose Pest Solutions.

FOX 2’s bug expert with Rose Pest Solutions, which is not connected to the restaurant – identified them as German Cockroaches a common pest, which reproduces like – well, rabbits, but not as cute.

They like rotten food – and junk food.

“They do very well on highly processed carbohydrates,” VanderWerp said.

The Popeyes location is closed pending a follow-up health inspection.

You can say, Popeye’s menu – is perfect.

The company said in a statement: “This is completely unacceptable.” In addition, it is owned by a franchisee and is closed for the time being.

While FOX 2 was there Monday, inspectors from the Detroit Health Department examined the location and told FOX 2 there was evidence of cockroaches — which led to the video.

“Popeyes, Warren and Conner,” the manager said on video.

Our bug man – says lack of sanitation keeps the cockroaches there, but they are initially hitchhikers.

“Someone has an infested home, they come to work and bring a few cockroaches with them, in a backpack, purse or coat, whatever,” VanderWerp said. “Or it comes into transport and goods.”

Besides being gross, they can cause asthma and allergy problems when in numbers, and more.

“Cockroaches visit some dark, sore places, like drains and feed on rotting food,” VanderWerp said.

The Popeye’s location is closed for now and the restaurant is working with a pest control company to deal with the issue. They will have to pass inspection again with the city to reopen.
