COLLINSVILLE – Registrations are now being taken for the 2023 Gateway Green Conference on Wednesday, March 8, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville.
The educational program will feature three tracks: building sustainable landscapes, conservation stewardship and tree care. Registration is $80 per person. There is a discounted rate for active Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists.
Sessions will include:
• Our woody plants face many challenges: The bleakness of pest management; Fredric Miller, Professor of Horticulture, Joliet Junior College
• Tips and techniques for trail building; Alyssa Macuiba, Wilderness Technician and Volunteer Coordinator, Shawnee National Forest
• Resilient landscapes; Christopher Carl, artist-designer-builder, Studio Land Arts
• Dealing with girdle roots and other underground issues; Mark Grueber, Community Forester, Missouri Department of Conservation
• Planning and Implementation of Prescribed Burning; Kevin Rohling, Forestry Research Technician, University of Illinois Extension
• Birds to swoon your garden: Wildlife benefits of native shrubs; Kim Rohling, Horticulture Educator, University of Illinois Extension
• Pesticide considerations beyond reading the label; Elizabeth Wahle, Commercial Agriculture Educator, University of Illinois Extension
• Exploration of the integration practices for improving soil health; Nathan Johanning, Commercial Agriculture Educator, University of Illinois Extension.
Continuing education units to maintain a variety of certifications are also available. This event is open to the general public.
