And while doors and windows are common entry points, don’t forget about those areas outside the premises where pests can sneak in. Take some time to visually sweep your home. Check anywhere a pipe enters or leaves your home, and make sure there are no gaps in the walls around them. Be sure to check your chimney if you have one, as well as door and window screens.

Get rid of any standing water around your home, and take care of any leaks or drips. Store all your food in airtight containers, and make sure you take out your trash regularly. It is also useful to keep any shrubs against your house neat and tidy! Store firewood at least 20 feet away from your home to avoid termite problems.
