pests during autumn

Contrary to popular belief, fall is a very active time for most pests! Preparing for winter puts many tasks on their to-do lists. And while this may not scare you, it might: The number one thing on that to-do list is finding your way home! Keep reading for some helpful coping tips pests during autumn.

Keep pests out of your home

Your home is the perfect haven for most pests, and they will look for a way this time of year. Fortunately, there are many things you can do to prevent this from happening.

It’s a good idea at the beginning of each season (or at least the beginning of spring and fall) to check your home for potential pest entry points. Check the weather stripping on all your doors, and replace them if they are worn. If you don’t have weather stripping yet, now is the time to install it!

And while doors and windows are common entry points, don’t forget about those areas outside the premises where pests can sneak in. Take some time to visually sweep your home. Check anywhere a pipe enters or leaves your home, and make sure there are no gaps in the walls around them. Be sure to check your chimney if you have one, as well as door and window screens.

Get rid of any standing water around your home, and take care of any leaks or drips. Store all your food in airtight containers, and make sure you take out your trash regularly. It is also useful to keep any shrubs against your house neat and tidy! Store firewood at least 20 feet away from your home to avoid termite problems.

The surefire way to deter pests in the fall

There are many things you can do around your home to keep pests away, but sometimes it’s just not enough. Some pests are just annoying, and you don’t have to put up with them in your home and around your family. But some pests are actually dangerous, or could end up costing you a lot of money down the road.

Rodents and termites can do a lot of damage in a short amount of time and often you are not aware of them until it is too late! Some spiders are poisonous, rodents can spread a number of diseases, and even cockroaches can cause allergic reactions – especially in children.

The best thing you can do for you and your family is to prevent these pests in the first place with routine pest control services. The alternative is to call the experts as soon as you notice an infestation! The sooner you ask for help, the cheaper and easier it will be for the pest control specialists to get the job done.
